RAeS Heathrow Branch Met Hundreds of Local Young People at the 11th Heathrow Jobs & Careers Fair

On the 29-30th January 2018, the Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch in collaborating with RAeS HQ’s Careers & Skills Department, exhibited at the 11th Heathrow Jobs & Careers Fair at the Aroral Suite, SOFITEL Heathrow Terminal 5. During the event, young and seasonsed members from the Branch and our experienced Career Advisers from the RAeS Careers & Skills Department, spoken to hundreds of tenanted local young people, their teachers and parents, and provided visitors with impartial guidance about Careers In Aerospace and the many benefits of being with a professional body like the Royal Aeronautical Society. RAeS Heathrow Branch Announces the February 2018 Lecture – Formula 1 Aerodynamics: Modelling for Performance

The Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch announces the upcoming branch lecture on Thursday, 08th February 2018, 18:15 hours at BA Waterside Theatre, British Airways Waterside Head Office, Harmondsworth UB7 0GA. This lecture is titled – Formula 1 Aerodynamics: Modelling for Performance. The Branch will be welcoming Dr Stephen Liddle, the Principal Aerodynamicist of Renalut Sport Racing. He will address the importance of aerodynamics in Formula 1 racing; the problems encountered and their solutions; as well as the modelling technologies and techniques used, such as wind tunnel testing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and simulation. The Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch is pleased to announced that the Branch alongside with the support from the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Careers & Skills Team and the Membership Team will be hosting a stand at the upcoming Heathrow Jobs and Careers Fair at the Sofitel Hotel, Heathrow Terminal 5. RAeS Heathrow Branch Successfully Concluded the First Lecture of 2018 – Advances in Additive Manufacturing

On 11th January 2018, the Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch successfully concluded the New Year’s first lecture at the British Airways Waterside Theatre, BA Head Office. The innovative lecture, entitled ‘Metallic Additive Manufacturing (AM): The Current State and Where it Needs to Go’, was presented by Guest Speaker from the Renishaw Plc, one of the world’s leading engineering and scientific technology companies. In this lecture, Stuart Jackson, the Business Development Manager for Additive Manufacturing from Renishaw drew a broad overview of Metallic Additive Manufacturing, the history of Additive Manufacturing, where is being used within the aerospace industry and answered the questions such as what needs to happen for Additive Manufacturing to be more widely adopted etc. Continue reading

The Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch announces a joint lecture event with Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) London Southwest Area Network on Tuesday, 20th February 2018, 18:30 hours at Room RVMB002, Kingston University Roehampton Vale Campus, Friars Avenue, London SW15 3DW. This lecture is titled – Engineering for Life: the Making of Modern Aircrew Escape System. The Branch will be welcoming Philip Rowles CEng FRAeS, Vice President of Engineering at Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Limited, who will deliver a joint lecture that will explain the key technical challenges and the solutions employed in modern aircrew escape systems.
