The Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch announces the upcoming branch lecture on Thursday, 14th December 2017, 18:15 hours at BA Waterside Theatre, British Airways Waterside Head Office, Harmondsworth UB7 0GA. This lecture is titled – The Role of a Rolls-Royce Test Pilot. The Branch will be welcoming Phill O’Dell, the Director of Flight Operations (formerly the Chief Test Pilot) of Rolls-Royce Plc, who will explain on the role of a test pilot today and provide an insight into being the display pilot for the Rolls-Royce Spitfire. RAeS Heathrow Branch Successfully Delivered the November 2017 Lecture – Big New Ventures at Heathrow

On the 9th November 2017, the Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch successfully delivered the third lecture of the 2017/18 season at the British Airways Waterside. The lecture, presented by Andy Garner, Baggage Operations Director of Heathrow Airport Ltd, was entitled ‘Personal Experience of Big New Ventures at Heathrow’. Andy took the audience into a journey of Heathrow adventures – the highs, lows, blood, sweat and tears of firing up Terminal 5 and Terminal 2, providing a world class welcome and goodbye for the greatest show on earth when the Olympics and Paralympics came to town in 2012 and driving consistent and reliable performance into Heathrow’s newest baggage system in Terminal 3, and the golden principle behind each success or lessons learnt. RAeS Heathrow Branch Successfully Concluded the Tick-off Lecture of the 2017/18 Season

On the 14th September 2017, the Royal Aeronautical Society Heathrow Branch successfully concluded the pioneer lecture of the 2017/2018 season at the B British Airways Waterside Theatre, BA Head Office. The lecture, presented by Samuel Penny, a licensed aircraft engineer with British Airways and a member of the British Human Powered Flying Club (BHPFC), was entitled ‘I BELIEVE I CAN FLY’.

Mr Penny, a young engineer who is the winner in two consecutive years of the Leonardo de Vinci Class Bognor Birdman Competition in 2016 and 2017, and the brains behind the Zephyrous II, an amazing flying machine designed to fly 2km and which can reach 16mph in good weather, spoke to the audiences about his initial involvement in the Bognor Birdman Competition and the British Human Powered Flying Club (BHPFC), as well as share the challenges he and his team have faced during the build and design process.
