A Happy Birthday from the Heathrow Branch! The Royal Aeronautical Society was formed in 1866, so 2016 brings the Society’s 150th anniversary – the sesquicentennial! The Society is celebrating its formation by looking back 150 years and forward up to 50 years with a theme of ‘innovative firsts’ in aerospace.
Two Important Dates:
- 12 January 1866 – the preliminary meeting of the Council of the Aeronautical Society of Great Britain.
- 27 June 1866 – first Public meeting of the Society.
In celebration of this special occasion, the RAeS Heathrow Branch coordinated the painting of the Royal Aeronautical Society’s 150 Years Anniversary LOGO on the side of a British Airways Boeing 777 Jetliner, registration – “G-RAES”. This special livery will be flying around the world with British Airways throughout the year of 2016!
The Royal Aeronautical Society is the world’s only professional body dedicated to the entire aerospace community. It is a multidisciplinary organisation and a place for anyone working, or interested, in the aeronautical, aviation and aerospace sectors. The Society’s membership profile is drawn from a diverse range of organisations and fields of expertise including engineering, design, and aircrew and air traffic control, along with professions that serve the aerospace, aviation and space industries, such as law, finance, marketing and recruitment.
